Privacy Policy — TrueTag: NFC Reader & Writer
The short version
TrueTag collects no data. Everything you do in the app stays on your device. The app has no internet access — it does not request the Internet permission, so it is technically incapable of sending anything off your phone. There are no accounts, no ads, no analytics, no tracking, and no third-party SDKs.
What the app stores — on your device only
- Your tag library. Tags you choose to save, and (only if you turn on the optional "Auto-save history" setting, which is off by default) tags you scan or write. A saved tag can contain whatever you put on it — for example a link, a contact card, or a Wi‑Fi network name and password. All of it is stored only in the app's private storage on your device.
- Your preferences. Theme, appearance style, and accessibility settings.
None of this is transmitted anywhere, and we have no server that could receive it.
What the app reads
When you hold an NFC tag to your phone, the app reads that tag's contents and hardware details (such as its ID and chip type) in order to show them to you. Reading happens only while the app is open on screen — TrueTag deliberately does not register to launch itself when a tag is tapped. Tag contents are shown to you and are kept only if you save them (or have auto-save turned on).
Sharing and export — always your action
- Share a tag report: only happens when you tap Share, and uses Android's standard share sheet so you choose where it goes. Wi‑Fi passwords are always removed from shared reports.
- Library export/import: creates or reads a plain JSON file at a location you pick. The file is yours; nothing is uploaded.
- Record actions (open a link, dial a number, connect to Wi‑Fi, etc.) hand the data to the app you choose, only when you tap the action, and risky content is screened and confirmed first.
Backups
The app's database and settings are excluded from Google cloud backup — nothing of yours goes to Google's servers. Direct device-to-device transfer when setting up a new phone (a local copy between two devices you own) is allowed so your library survives a phone upgrade.
Permissions
- NFC — the only permission the app requests; required to read and write tags.
Data deletion
Delete individual items or clear your scan/write history in the app's Library, or uninstall the app — uninstalling removes everything, since nothing exists outside your device.
Children
TrueTag is a general-audience utility. It collects no personal data from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If a future version of the app changes any of the above (for example, if optional online features are ever added), this policy will be updated and the effective date revised before that version ships. Material changes will be called out in the app's update notes.
